"Hello Money"
Beggars here come in all shapes and sizes and utilize many different tactics. The most common come up to you speaking softly and follow you around or tap on the window of your taxi. The most annoying are the kids who poke grab and sometimes scratch you. The saddest are the tiny kids who don't say anything they sit naked with genitals directly touching the dirty wet cement barely moving. One

Into Thin Air
The weather was picture perfect the traffic volume low and alpineesque valleys lay below me in all their glory. I had timed the ride just right. It was 1 pm the hottest part of the day and my altimetre indicated an altitude of 4.400 metres as I headed ever upwards to Chola pass in Western Sichuan. I had spent the night in the cleanest hotel of the whole trip showered with hot water for the f

Koh Tao
Koh Tao is the most beautiful relaxed laid back cool island I've ever been to. The water is clear and calm the sand is so soft beneath your feet and the people are incredibly friendly and genuine. It feels a little bit like Santa Cruz but in Thailand a little bit weird but in a very cool way. Eileen covered all the big stuff and yes Bren was WAY off base w the room he picked for us

Greetings from New Mexico
Today we began our journey crossing the U.S. at 540am. We were fortunate in that we did not hit any traffic leaving the LA area. We were very thankful Jojo also decided not to give the cats their medicine until she thought they needed it. Surprisingly the cats did very well in the car. Oh wait Mischa decided to pee on Jojo's seat. So I pull over on the side of the 40 freeway so she can t

Well that was a lot easier than i thought it would be Bit of a early start. A couple of the guys work in my dorm so i was woken at about half seven by there not so quite morning rituals. I thought i'd use this early start to my advantage. So after getting ready i headed up to Karangahape Road at the top of Queen Street as the Backpackers Car Market is just off of it. Final day in Santiago before meeting up with my tour
Well I couldnt have asked for a better final day in Santiago...I met up with my Brazilian buddy and we headed to a wine tour at Concha y Toro which is the largest exporter of Chilean wines. The harvest finishes in March so we couldnt see any of the leafy vines but we strolled around the acreage and learned about the history of the family who brought all of the vines back from France. We even had

Teaching ESL Camp
Camp for me and many other teachers was one of the most intimidating challenges when teaching ESL in Korea. Where a teacher usually creates 14 lesson plansweek during the regular school year a camp can expand to 10 or more lesson plansweek. 1 hour 1 lesson. At my school camp lasts one week one during summer break and another during winter break of 1518 lesson plans. Standard Class

We spent the last couple of days relaxing catching up and feeding our faces at Breda and Adrian's gorgeous home in Truro N.S. Great timing to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary and Pat's 61st birthday. Pat decided to purchase an air mattress seems the thin selfinflating foam just doesn't cut it this time out I picked up some heavy socks and of course batteries to fill two air mattresses

Slowly making our way home
After spending almost four days in Pucon we finally started our way south towards Coyhaique. We made our way to Osorno where we would catch our bus to Coyhaique only to find out that our bus the only bus to Coyhaique was sold out. We started panicking. We are supposed to start classes on Monday and everyone was telling us that our next chance was until not next Wednesday After a long hour at a

Hiking Volcan Villarica
We got up at the crack of dawn to put our gear on and go hike up the volcano. Usually people start hiking the volcano at 5000ft where the ski lifts can take you but being winter the lifts were frozen. We had to start at about 300ft at 8am. Twenty minutes into our hike my heart was racing and my feet were hurting. Breaks were never long enough for me but I had to keep on trekking. Every ten minut

Asado in Pucon
As soon as we arrived in Pucon we fell in love with the town. It is a small ski outdorsy town two hours from Temuco which everyone who visits Chile must go to. Our hostel is amazing. It is called Tree House Hostel and is run by the most adorable Chileans. One of them Alex immediately offered to help us find things to do in town and even cook us an asado It was delicious He made us pork and s

Week 2 a week of classes.
Some interesting things I have learned observed from my classes that have stuck with me Political Sociological Our teacher was Carlos. Most women in the class had a crush on this 40 year old baldish guy. He explained the information in such a way you actually wanted to listen. He was a great teacher and his tics were funny. He squinted his eyes when it was information he found profound or i

Adembenemende uitzichten

Chruch in Bauska
We went to church at Pastor Andrejs' in Bauska. The service was delivered in three languages Russian Latvian and English We all spoke and shared with the church. The music during worship was great even though it was in Latvian and sometimes Russian. Most of the time we could pick out what song it was but it was nice just to close your eyes and enjoy the music and singing. After the service

Now THIS is how you start a trip
The trip has gone like clockwork so far. We managed to get everything wrapped up before we departed and actually got on the road not on time but EARLY. For those of you who know me well you know that's a miracle. Closing the business down today was a big help and allowed us to wake and concentrate on our plans. Aside from the one client who has called literally 6 .. wait.. ring ring..make that

Day one
So yesterday was very interesting....I went around Dublin and saw the book of Kells at Trinity college. The campus is very beautiful. The book of Kells was amazing For those who aren't familiar the book consists of the four gospels in picture form. These very well protected books were created by Irish monks....they are full of detail .....and truly ornate. I also had the pleasure of warding off

On the Bright Side
The most difficult realization that comes after awareness is accepting that you have limitations. Maybe thatrsquos where the balance lies wedged in between your heart and mind between the crevasses that you havenrsquot had the courage to thoughtfully explore. The dichotomous nature of the two helps me separate what I can and cannot process while I am in the work. Therersquos a crippled m

Pyramids Tombs and Sailing the Nile
We've made it to Egypt And it's hot. Insanely hot. I've only seen a thermometer one time and it read 43 degrees C. That's almost 110 degrees Farenheit and I swear that wasn't even the hottest day. When we were leaving the Cairo airport earlier this week we started chatting with a random guy standing next to us while waiting in line. Turn's out that he's a 29 year old Argentinian named Gustavo an

What's up with the graffiti in Berlin
For all of you who love Berlin write me and let's compare notes. I've taken at least a dozen trips to Berlin and I think I know the city pretty well but you may have a different perspective. If so I'd like to hear about it. If you're younger than me under 60 you are most likely to be attracted to hip trendy parts of Berlin like Mitte or Prenzlauerberg. These areas although mildly int
