USA - California California is one of the largest states in the US and is commonly
refered to as the Golden State, so called because of the gold rush of 1849. It
is located along the west coast of the United States, and is one of the most
visited places by tourists. The capital, Sacramento, is located in the central
part of the state.
Los Angeles is the most populous city in California and is located in the
southern half of the state. It is a great and very diverse city; from Hollywood
to East L.A. you can find every possible lifestyle represented in this
microcosm.
The San Francisco Bay Area is home to the city of San Francisco, generally seen
as one of the coolest places on the planet; the liberal haven of Berkeley; and
Silicon Valley, home to a multitude of high-tech companies. The wine-producing
Napa Valley is a short distance to the north.
The Central Coast runs between L.A. and San Francisco. It is a great area, with
Santa Barbara as its most important city. The coastline of the Cental Coast is
very beautiful, and very scenic. North of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo has
maintained its old main street, famous for Farmers' Market on Thursday night.
San Diego is located in the south of the state and offers good beaches and water
sports. There are many cool things to visit in San Diego such as Sea World,
Mission San Diego De Acala, the Wild Animal Park, and the World Famous San Diego
Zoo.
Southern California is also known for it's theme parks, like Disneyland,
California Adventure, Knott's Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal
Studios, and many more. These places are very fun to visit, and continue bring
in tourists by the millions every year.
Some of the most beautiful spots for hiking and other outdoor activities are
Lake Tahoe, Mono Lake, and Yosemite in the High Sierra. Reaching as it does from
the Mexican border in the south to the Pacific Northwest in the north,
California must have one of the most diverse climates of any state. If you can
stand the heat, try exploring one of California's many deserts, such as Death
Valley. On the other end of the climate spectrum, the redwood rainforests of the
North Coast are truly a sight to behold and offer a very different glimpse of a
beautiful state!

Glendale, California is a bedroom comunity of approximetly 200,000
residents, situated between the San Fernando Valley and the San Gabriel
Valley. In and of itself it is not a popular tourist destination. There
are no amusement parks, beaches, camping areas or famous museums in the
city. There are only a couple of hotels, the best one is a Hilton, but
there are several high end motels and all of the hotels and motels are
very reasonably priced. There are several hundred restaurants, and
although there are no high priced restaurants there are dining
establishments like Damons on Brand Boulevard that serves aged prime
cuts of beef and provide excellant service (They just do not charge an
arm and a leg for the meal.) and restaurants like Tony Romas, the Olive
Garden and the Panda Inn, as well as numerous high end coffee shops
(Try Conrads, they have a brightly lit coffee shop area, a nice outdoor
patio and a dimly lit lounge area that will remind you of a good steak
house. You can get a filet mingon dinner for under $20.00 thats as good
as the dinners served in most high end steak houses. Additionally,
their fried chicken is as good as you can find almost anywhere and
their service is excellant.) and ethnic cuisine of almost every type.

Joshua Tree National Park is at a biological and geological
crossroads. The park straddles the natural boundary where the high,
cool Mojave Desert and the low, hot Colorado Desert meet. The park
preserves an outstanding collection of rich desert plant life including
extensive stands of the iconic Joshua tree.
Scenically, the
park is marked by maze-like formations of tumbled monzogranite boulders
that are popular with rock climbers, making the area a worldwide
destination for climbing enthusiasts. Joshua Tree National Park is
bounded on the south by the geologically active San Andreas Fault. From
the mile-high vista at Keys View, visitors can stand on the edge of the
North American Continental Plate and look down at the Pacific
Continental Plate in the Coachella Valley below. The intricate boulder
formations on the western side of the park give way on the eastern side
to the broad expanses of the Pinto Basin.

So your headed to Walt Disney World, but you only have time for a long
weekend. Although it’s certainly not the ideal way to see “The Happiest Place on
Earth”, it definitely can be done, especially if you’re willing to hit the parks
early, stay late, and be content with only catching the highlights. Even though
you’ll only be touring for 3 days, buy a 4-day Hopper Pass (unused days never
expire) in order to visit two parks on the last day. Stay on Disney property for
easy access and pre-arrange priority seating, Disney’s answer to dining
reservations, weeks before your trip by calling 407-WDW-DINE. Most importantly,
bring along a great pair of walking shoes and lots of energy. Hang on for a
whirlwind of a tour. |
